The Pastor asked us to open to 1 Kings 4 : 4-10 and asked that someone read from the congregation, so one young man got up and began to read. He was so intent on what he was reading that he didn’t see the strange looks we were all giving him because we couldn’t find the words he was reading in our own Bibles.
Eventually, the Pastor had to call his attention to the fact that something was amiss. It turned out that he had opened to 2 Kings 4 and was reading from verse 4 – 10. Same Bible, just that we were open to different books of the Bible. The Word of God is clear on how we ought to align. It says it this way, ‘He, who comes to God, must first believe that He is’. How can you align if you don’t know to whom or what you should be aligning?
The thing is had the Pastor not stopped the young man who was reading the scripture that day in church, it doesn’t matter for how long he read, we would never have gotten the gist of the message he wanted to pass to us. It is like having someone sign a cheque to One Million Naira for an account that has 10 million in it. As long as the person who signed is not the right signatory to the account, even though the cheque leaf is correct, and the account holds money, it will be impossible to get value for that cheque.
God wants us all to accelerate, and it gives him immense joy to see us accelerate, the only snag is we only accelerate based on how much of him we know and how well we can hear him. Our desires are the seeds for our acceleration, but until we find a place for them in God and align them to his will, it can all end in a hopeless goose chase.
The question becomes; how do we align to a God we really do not know? Times are different folks, the God of our fathers is a great God to know, but do you know your own God? He was the God of Abraham, and that should have been enough but He went on to become the God of Isaac and even that wasn’t enough as He went on to become the God of Jacob.
Irrespective of who the God of your father in the Lord is, you need to wake up one day and know your own God; otherwise how can you come to the God whom you don’t know? How can you come to a God you cannot understand or hear speak? Just how do you propose to accelerate in his will unless you know him for yourself?
Folks, we can run as far as we want in the new year, we can partake in all the spiritual disciplines they ask us to, but until we know him for ourselves, we may never be able to go as far as He plans to take us.
Because ultimately… you can only align with what you know.
