This is Our Time

I stumbled on this movie on DSTV one evening; and by the time the movie was over, I was in tears. I was in tears because it was very easy to identify with the theme of ‘This is Our Time’.

This is Our Time is a movie about God’s plan for each of his children. The movie opens with five friends just graduating from college, who are excited about their future and all the territories they will conquer.

The story-line captures very well, how we have plans and God throws a wrench in them. For the characters of Ale (Allie) and Luke, it was not in doubt if they had been called to India to be a part of something great, as Ethan’s character puts it. Therefore, the issue was not whether or not, they had been called to greatness, but how the greatness will unfold was the wrench.

Ale’s death in India seems to end the movie and not pursuing the will of God, for her and Luke; if they only knew that that was just the beginning. The question ‘why do bad things happen to good people? Was a very prevalent part of this movie.

For me, the scene where Ethan had a conversation with his Professor, and he told him, that ‘the will of God is not something to do, but something to be’, was an echo of conversations I have had with God.

Ethan’s character, which most of us can identify with, pushes the principle of staying in the place of God’s revealed will, until His concealed will shows up.

In the end, the scripture in Romans 8:28, that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose, rings true. Ale maybe, shouldn’t have died, but in dying, they were able to do more for the orphans in India than they could have done, if she was alive.

The question, ‘how do we understand the will of God?’ runs throughout the entire movie but in the end, His sovereignty cannot be hidden because He, as always, is able to take even what is a bad situation and flip it for his glory.

This is a great movie for the entire family to see, and a great teaching tool for new believers and for young adults about to venture out of the home for the first time. You should watch it and let us know what you think of it.
