One thing that personally strikes me and is depressing about modern Christianity is how weak and powerless most people professing to be Christians are. For a while, I wondered why it is so, that we yell and leap in church from excitement but when life presents tough situations, most Christians shrink with fear. Since then, the Believer’s Authority is one book that I’ve found worth recommending to Christians everywhere.
As far as the topic of faith and reaping the full benefits of the Christian life goes, Kenneth Hagin is one that has in several books and countless teachings explored and exposed the hidden truths of God’s word in these areas.
The book, originally written and published in 1964 and reedited with more information in 1984 explores the question of whether the believer has any authority on earth and how to operate in that authority.
In the beginning Chapter, the writer lays a solid foundation in explaining that while the believer has been given authority, lack of knowledge of it is what has robbed many believers of the chance at the life God planned for us. Our concern therefore should be how to gain revelation and an understanding of what we have been given in Christ. Particular reference is made to the prayers of Paul in Ephesians 1:16-20 and Ephesians 3:14-19 which, going by his own experience, is important to be prayed severally and consistently in order for the believer to gain insight into the hidden mysteries in the word of God.
In subsequent chapters, the book addresses the source of the believer’s authority, its scope and how to practically exercise the authority in different situations.
One of my favourite things about Hagin’s teachings and books is how he carefully explains each theory with examples, life experiences and supporting scriptures so that it is made understandable to the barest minimum. This book does not fall short of the same standard and is doubtless one book that should be on the shelf of every believer who takes their faith seriously and is determined to live above limitations and demonic influence or oppression on earth.
