What you are doing right now is all that matters. Yes, right this moment is all that counts. So, what are you doing? What are you thinking? How are you living? Right this MOMENT?
See, people say our lives are the sum total of all our choices. I agree, but I’ll take it further and suggest to you that your legacy is the sum total of all you do with each moment you are given.
Where you end up; what you leave behind; what people remember about you is the result of every single NOW that you live.
A moment is almost like a fork in the road and depending on where you turn – left or right- you go towards or away from your God ordained destiny. Let me explain using Joseph and Mary. Seems fitting, seeing as we just celebrated Easter, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The moment Angel Gabriel gave Mary that one of a kind message was pivotal in her life (and ours too). Please remember she was just 14 years old. A Teen! Facing a NOW that would throw the most stoic mature woman. Her response in the face of this outlandish angelic encounter that would most likely lead to a very shameful outcome?
This.
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her (Luke 1:38).
What! How is she so chilled?
We have to understand that what Angel Gabriel had just told Mary in response to her “How shall this be question” had NEVER been seen before. A virgin birth.
Please tell me. How did Mary, this young teenager manage to answer so calmly? How was she so chilled in this craziest of moments? I have no clue. But I bet it had something to do with her trust in God. She just believed. Her decision to believe in that moment opened the door for God’s power to perform and bring His will to pass in her life!
And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord (Luke 1:45).
For me, this means had she not believed things may have gotten complicated. I’m so happy Mary made the right choice. That was her NOW and she focused on God. Joseph too. Imagine him faced with this never before heard of tale of impregnation via the Spirit of God! It almost sounded heretical. But he too, chose to believe and that moment in his life; the moment of trust and obedience added up to you and I having Christ in our lives today.
But most of all, I’m glad Jesus Christ, the baby grew up to be a man that understood that every moment he lived as a man on earth had to be in perfect obedience to God. Because every single moment Jesus lived on earth empowered by the Spirit back then adds up to the “Roadmap” for my own NOW. Yours too. Because of his moments, we know we can live ours. No matter what.
Today, what are you doing with your moments? If I followed you as you lived your NOW today, will I encounter Jesus Christ? What are your moments adding up to? Your purpose? I hope so.
My baby sister went to be with Jesus Christ on December 28th 2016. I can’t explain the deep pain. But I can explain how I’ve chosen to fight very hard not to ‘dash’ the devil any of my moments. Ah! No! I won’t squander my NOW on what I call “The Deep Sadness” a.k.a depression! I refuse to spend my moments buying Bitterness! It was so hard but I emptied the calabash of un-forgiveness. It stank. I rinsed it out using the water of mercy I myself had received from God.
Simply put, I choose to make each moment count. To Rise Up. Daily. Every moment. Especially because Sholly can’t have any more moments this side of eternity. I, Salt, am committed to living my NOW for both of us to the benefit of my world and to the glory of God.
How do YOU plan to live your NOW? Tell me, will the sum total of your MOMENTS be a roadmap to Heaven for someone later on down the road?
Again, I hope so.
