Beautiful moments often missed in the constant din and incessant distractions of our busy lives. Beautiful moments often lost, craving for something seemingly better in the far away; far out of reach. The beautiful moments squandered pining for the dream perfect life and relationship while what we have now languished away.
How much precious moments have we wasted worrying about the future and chewing the cud over the past? We forget that sufficient for today is its own trouble. We fail to remember we have been called to forget the things that have passed.
Except body and mind agree to cohabit the moment, we miss out on the value of the moment and the preciousness of now. Too often body and mind are as far apart as the north and south pole. At such times, we are lost to those with share space with, and when such are significant persons in our lives, we drift apart because we are not mindful of them.
Truly, the ones closest are the ones we take for granted. We focus on their weakness and the areas where they are struggling. We complain about what they failed to do, how they fail to meet our unspoken expectations, and we magnify their shortcomings. We fail to appreciate the efforts they make and their strengths. We fixed them in our minds, and with our tongues, we hope to chisel them to the shape our mind has formed. If we will pause for a moment, and take note of the beauty and strength God has endowed them with; then we will savor the preciousness of the blessing God through them has bestowed on us in their momentary imperfect state.
Our mind is quick to drift so far away from the present. It takes a concerted and conscious effort to bring it back to the moment. How often does our mind drift away when we are in conversations with significant others? Have you noticed that there is not a place that is sacrosanct? Not even when we are in church or having that precious quiet time, the mind easily drifts away from the moment. We are ever seeking for something ever beyond the reach.
Moments slip away too quickly like water pour in a basket; we can hardly catch it. Hence the need to pay attention to the moment or it will be lost forever.
Each moment of our lives is significant and precious like a gemstone, even if it does not seem so now. They are the tiniest pieces of the larger picture of our lives. They are phrases in the story His divine hand is scripting of your life. Each has its rightful place, whether we know it or not. Moments ought to be treasured as a gift.
Enjoy the now moments with your children, in a blink of the eye; they are grown and gone far away. Enjoy the now moments with your parents; you never know when they will be snatched away beyond your reach. Enjoy the now moments with your siblings; blood will always be thicker than water. Enjoy the precious now moments with your spouse. You will drift further away from each other with every moment squandered, until the gulf is filled with what you will have to contend with later. Every opportunity missed to be present in the now is lost to eternity.
When we are distracted and do not pay attention to the now, we miss the significance of the gift of each moment that slips through our hands, that precious moment simply vaporizes and disappears. And then comes the regret that will steal more moments away.
Be grateful for now. You are alive in the now. You are living life now. Be alive in the now. There is something valuable now is teaching you if you pause and be present in the now. Believe me; there is a special reason why you are where you are at this defining moment in God’s story. You don’t have to understand it now. It will become clear at His appointed time. Don’t let the pains of the past and the worries of tomorrow steal the precious gem of now.
