I have worked in a bank for about 10 years now, so when I hear the word ‘transaction’, I think of money changing hands in consideration for goods or services. Google actually defines this word as ‘an instance of buying or selling something; a business deal’. Does ‘destiny transactions’ now mean that as a Christian, my destiny is a result of a transaction? Can I actually ‘buy’ my destiny? Bearing in mind that ‘buy’ means obtaining something in exchange for payment.
Let me shock you as I too was shocked…YES, you can!
Wait oh! Don’t empty your piggy bank just yet. And don’t fall for that belief that you can give God money and He will grant you a visa to the U.S., or make Ajibola marry you, or cause your Boss to recommend you for double promotion! E no dey work like that oh… I don try am…e no work! I found out the hard way that this is simply gambling –‘an enterprise undertaken…a chance of profit or success’
Seriously though, what do I mean when I say you can buy your destiny? That you and I can determine what we get/have in God?
Well, I’ve learnt that God is a God of order and principle. He has set some divine principles in order, and if we toe in line, hey presto you will experience results. Like they say in computing: garbage in, garbage out! Or as we say in ‘christianese’ – ‘seed-time and harvest’! Thinking this way I had to ask…’ babe, what is this seed that I can transact with?’ Since it is obviously not money – because God certainly does not need my money (no be say I no dey sow seeds and pay tithe oh!), after all he created the universe (take 5 minutes and watch Francis Chan’s The Awe Factor of God on YouTube) and he owns the cattle on a thousand hills. How much can I even give to this BIG God of mine? So how do I conduct successful transactions to affect my destiny?
So with all of these going on in my head, I recalled a scripture that my beloved Pastor Shola Adesoye had picked on a few weeks back: “Therefore I counsel you to purchase from Me gold refined and tested by fire, that you may be [truly]wealthy, and white clothes to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nudity from being seen, and salve to put on your eyes, that you may see.” (Rev 3:18 AMP – emphasis mine). As a banker, the word ‘purchase’ immediately jumped out at me. Then, I realized that it was not my so dear/beloved Pastor speaking oh… it was Jesus – the Amen and Author of my eternal salvation. And he was talking to the church oh! He [it seems]advocates destiny transactions too. Transactions tailor made by heaven to bring me/us into a place of intimacy with God, to secure our future in God.
But to purchase what God promised here, I need the correct currency, no be so? I think the currency for destiny transactions is clearly stated in the following verses which, in my opinion, point to obedience.
And when I think ‘obedience’, I think submission to God’s will for my life in each area, even when I don’t quite understand why he’s asking me to take the job offer that pays less than the second offer I have. Obedience even when Ore seems the perfect man and the Lover of your soul says wait for HIS desire. Not easy, abi? I can now, to an extent understand why David said he would not offer to God something that costs him nothing (2 Sam24:24). Destiny transactions are costly; and not just monetarily. But then we have the promise of He who never fails, whose thoughts are to give us a future and a hope.
Connecting the dots, I am reminded of 1 Sam. 15:12 from which I understand that God prefers obedience to sacrifice. I now believe that the realities of the destiny God has shown me about my life, family, country, etc.as alluded to in Rev. 3 can only be realized/purchased/transacted with my prompt, uncompromising obedience to what God is saying (not said or will say… that’s another story I assure you) per day. As for me and my house, we will obey…you nko?
