Too many times we squander our ‘now’ moments. Many oceans would have been crossed, many mountains moved and awesome miracles performed if only we handled our ‘now’ moments better.
‘Now’ is your greatest opportunity. Your best shots ought to be taken ‘now.’ Not later. Not tomorrow.
The problem is that we often leave for later, ideas that strike us with such force that we could hardly stand, rather than go to work on them immediately. What we don’t seem to realize is that ideas come with the power and wisdom to make them function. Those powers that come with such ideas recede in intensity and capacity the longer we hold off in possessing them.
May we learn to move with the cloud of glory. We often begin to work on ideas long after the ‘glow’ that came with them is gone. When God supplies an idea, He sends it with the power to make the idea ‘fly.’ When we refuse to work on it immediately, afterwards all we have is the ‘letter’ of the idea but the ‘spirit’ of the idea is gone, along with the enabling authority and power.
However, the flip side of this is straining and pushing for change when the Lord will have us wait patiently for his mighty hand.
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalm 27:14.
“Whoever is in a hurry shows that the thing he is about is too big for him.” – Lord Chesterfield
“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” – Beverly Sills
Many times, we give up in our quest for that which God has called us to do because we can’t see apparent results. It takes time to get results. But many times we give up while God is still cooking things for us.
I learnt this lesson some years back. I went to my farm in Sagamu early in the morning and asked my Farm Manager to make me tea. He gathered some sticks and set up fire. He put water in a pot and put it on the newly made fire. From where l sat, all l could see was a lot of smoke.
After waiting for about five minutes, l asked my Farm Manager, “where is the fire?” He replied, ‘the fire is coming, sir.’
The smoke got bigger but still no fire. I decided to be patient. After about ten minutes, the smoke cleared and in its place a bright fire emerged.
So it is in real life. We may have to do with the smoke until the fire shows up. But if you see the smoke, trust me, the fire is coming. Don’t give up.
Hang in there. Help is on the way.
